IV.Characterization of Todd Anderson

Hey, y'all,
in this blog I have written a characterization about Todd Anderson I hope you’ ll enjoy it.
I have chosen him because he is my favorite character, because I think he has changed most positively in the course of the story.

Characterization

Todd is a 16-year-old boy who is very emotional, with dark blonde to brown hair, blue eyes, a soft-
edged facial profile and a medium-sized figure. He is Neil Perry’s roommate and later became a member of the Dead Poets Society.
Todd is new at the Welton Academy.
at the beginning of the story he is very shy and reserved.
He likes the saying seize the day that Mr. Keating says in a lesson. He doesn’t have a good relationship with his parents because they expect him to fill his brother’s footsteps. After a short time he befriends to Neil Perry, whose father also expects a lot from his son. When Neil commits suicide Todd is very troubled and says that Mr. Perry killed his son.
At the end of the story, when Mr keating is fired and has to leave the class, Todd self-confidently stands on the table and calls oh Captain, my Captain what most of the guys follow, that shows that he has become very self-confident and loyal to Mr keating in the course of the story.
when you look at his character at the beginning
Compared to his character at the end you see a big positive difference and as a result that the focus is often on him it should not be difficult to see that he is one of the main characters in Dead Poets society.

III.Mottos/Proverbs/Sayings-My Favorite

Hey boys/girls/etc.👋
The topic of this blog entry is my favorite motto and why exactly this one is important for me.

There are lots of mottos, proverbs and sayings, it isn’t easy to find a favorite But my personal favorite is YOLO (you only live once).
This means you should live your life the way you want and do everything you enjoy no matter how dangerous, forbidden etc. it is and no matter what others think about it, because you only live once. It is often used by teenagers when someone has done something dangerous or forbidden.

It's important for me because it always reminds me to use my lifetime sensible and not waste it on some crap.

I would be happy to get your feedback about this blog post in the comments below.😁

II.Summary

Hey here I’m again
In this blog entry I’ve written a Summary of chapter 6 of the book, I hope you’ll enjoy it.

What happened before (in Chapter 5)?
Mr Keating asked the class to to rip out the first page of the book “Understanding poetry” and Knox Knox meets Chris and crushes her immediately.

Summary
At the teachers’ dining table Mc Allister sits next to Mr Keating and ironically praises his teaching. Mr Keating is aware that he is an unusual teacher. Mc Allister thinks that Mr Keating is taking a high risk with such a teaching. Mc Allister calls himself a free thinker. Neil Perry finds Mr Keating’s yearbook, where the boys learn about the Dead Poets Society. The boys ask Mr Keating about the “club”, and he tells them that it was a secret organization that met in an old cave and that the school management doesn’t think much of it. The boys set themselves the goal of restoring the Dead Poets Society

What's going to happen?
The boys find the cave and Todd is admitted to the Dead Poets Society.

I. The Four Pillars

Hey Guys 👋 this is my first “real” blog entry I hope you’ll enjoy it
The four pillars of the Welton Academy

The four pillars represent the guiding principles of the Welton Academy:

  1. Tradition: the love for school, country and family.
  2. Honor: dignity and the fulfillment of duty.
  3. Discipline: the respect for parents, teachers and the headmaster.
  4. Excellence: the result of hard work and the key to all success in school and everywhere.

Comparison with our guiding principles

  • with us the human being stands in the first place
  • we strive for a comprehensive and deepened education as a basis for lifelong learning.
  • we treat each other with respect, tolerance and trust.
  • together we create an open and lively school.
  • we take responsibility for ourselves and our environment.
  • we make it possible for each individual to develop his potential in the best possible way.
  • we see engagement and motivation as a key factor for a good school in a democratic society.
Our guiding principles are different in many ways from the four pillars of Welton:

  • For us, in contrast to Welton, the individual person is more in the foreground.
  • It is also important to us that each individual has the right to education and the chance to develop his or her potential in the best possible way.
  • Respect for all 🎁 .
  • Tradition isn’t (really) important for us.
  •  We are an more opened school than Welton are

VIII.Final task: resume

Hey guys👋,
this is the last post of this blog
I really liked the novel because it had an interesting and exciting plot and it was very emotional  and dramatic too.
The story is also important for me because it was very interesting to get a view into the life in a(n elite) boarding school.
The difficulty for me wasn’t to write this blog digitally, but to write it in English.😁

VII. The main theme

What’s the main Theme of Dead Poets Society?

I think there is more than just one main themes in Dead Poets Society but I have chosen self-determination.
Because already at the beginning,
at the soccer training Mr keating lets everyone decide for themselves whether they want to participate or not.
And the boys in many situations don't let anybody tell them what to do, instead they decide for themselves, for example when Neil wants to act in the theater, he doesn't let his father forbid him to do that and also as Mr.Perry decides to switch him to another school so it doesn’t happen cause Neil decides to kill himself.

VI. Has Mr Keating reached what he wanted?

Hey gentlemen, ladies, etc. the question of this post is:
Has Mr Keating reached what he wanted?
My opinion:
All in all yes but a lot of unwanted things also happened. For example Neil's suicide that was
something he definitely didn't want.
But he made most of the students more self-confident and made them see that they have an own opinion.
He also inspired them to write poetry and showed them that they can decide for themselves how to live their lives. Even though he was fired at the end most of the students were still loyal to him, first of all Todd Anderson who has changed most of all in the course of the story.
John Keating has turned this beginning shy and anxious boy into a courageous and confident young man.

If you have another view you can write your own opinion in the comments
